(1st period)
Period: The 1st
Teaching materials: Book 5,Unit 2,P9.Conversation.
Teacher: Angela Chen, from Xiaolan Yongkang Primary School
Ⅰ.Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge objectives:
-Students can listen, speak, read, and spell the words and phrases: glue; paper clips; rubber bands; staples; making something; fixing the hang glider.
-Students can read, comprehend and use the conversation;
-Students can read, comprehend and use the drill:
Do you have any ____? Yes, I do. No, I don’t. I have some ____. Here you are.
2. Ability objectives:
-Students can remember the words by easy ways.
-Students can comprehend, read and act the conversation well and get some information from it, and know about how to ask and answer politely.
-Students can use the new phrases and sentences to arise their oral English.
3. Learning objectives:
-Students can remember the words with easy ways.
-Students can comprehend, read and act the conversation well.
4. Moral objectives:
-Let students know more cultures and knowledge.
-To arouse students’ interests in English reading while teaching by story. Encourage students to join in the cooperation.

V、Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Organization
1.Warming up.
Teacher says some orders and the students do the actions.
“Stand up. Sit down. Point to the door/ window. Show me your pen/ ruler.”
[Purpose: Have the students get ready for the class, and motivate their passion of studying English.]
2.Free talk.
Talk about the stationeries on students’ desks, etc
“Can I have your pen/ ruler? Here you are. Thank you.”
[Purpose: Talking about the student’s stationeries will make the teacher close to the students, and lead to the main dialogues of this lesson.]
3.Song. “Do you have a fork?”
[Purpose: This song can cheer the students up and remind the students of the sentences and words they learnt before.]
Step 2 Presentations.
1.Show a hang glider.
Do you have a hang glider? Gogo has a hang glider. Tony and Jenny can fly with him. Look, they’re flying to an island. What happened?
[Purpose: Showing a real hang glider will catch the students’ attention and it’s also the key point of this lesson. The part of video of last lesson can make the situation more complete and real. ]
2. Show a broken hang glider: Gogo, Tony and Jenny are on the island. The hang glider broke. They can’t fly. What are they going to do?
[Purpose: Showing a broken hang glider will catch the students’ attention and it can also make the situation more complete and real. Have the students to think about the question while they are watching the video.]
3. Show a scene: They’re on an island. Gogo wants to fix the hang glider. Can he do it?
[Purpose: Lead the students into the situation and learn the phrase “fix the hang glider”. Have the students think about another question and let the story going on.]
4. Set the roles and learn the new words: Teacher is Gogo, the boys are Tony, the girls are Jenny.
Gogo: I want to fix the hang glider. I need to borrow something. Tony/ Jenny, do you have any glue? (Chant: glue, glue, Do you have any glue? Glue, glue, I have some glue.)
Tony &; Jenny: No, I don’t. I don’t have any glue.
Gogo: Do you have any paper clips? (Game: paper paper clips)
Tony: No, I don’t. But I have some rubber bands. (Game: rubber rubber bands)
Gogo: I have a stapler. Do you have any staples? (compare the real objects with the words)
Tony: Yes, I do. Here you are.
Jenny: Gogo, what are you doing? Are you making something? (make a model/ cake)
Gogo: I’m fixing the hang glider. (try to fix the hang glider) (fix the bike/ book/ car/ computer)
[Purpose: Setting the roles of this story will lead the students into the situation. Different methods of teaching the new words can help them learn the new words better.]
Step 3: Show the whole conversation.
1.Let Ss watch the whole conversation.
[Purpose: Have the students watch the whole story so that they can get a whole idea about the story.]
2.Open the books let Ss read the whole conversation.
[Purpose: Let the students read the story following the computer so that they can learn the local pronunciations and tone.]
3.Divide into the groups; let Ss try a roll play.
[Purpose: Roll playing makes the students understand the story much better.]
Step 4: Play a game.
Who can catch the sentences quickly?
[Purpose: The game can make the students cheer up and make them remember the key points much better.]
Step 5: Extensions.
They’re very happy because they can fix the hang glider. They want to sing a song with you. Let’s sing a new song.
Do you have any staples?
Do you have any glue? I don’t have any staples.
But I have some glue.
[Purpose: This song includes the key and difficult points in this lesson. Singing and composing can make the students be more familiar with the key and difficult points in this lesson]
Step 6: Summary
1. Summary what we have learnt today.
T: Boys and girls, we have learnt a new story, some new words and new sentences.
[Purpose: Remind the students of the key and difficult points in this lesson.]
2. Who is the winner?
T: Look, (point to the assessment on the blackboard)
Who is the winner today?
[Purpose: Praise of the winner can make the students more active to learn English well.]
Step 7 Homework
1.Read and play the roles.
2.Change the song.
[Purpose: This housework is not difficult and it can help the students recall and remember the words and sentences they learnt at school.]
